Our Story

Viewed critically from this unpleasant and painful situation, it stands to reason that measures should be adopted to confront such a degrading spectacle which deserves the concerted effort of all discerning and decent persons. These are peculiar cases which need utmost attention. The problem of existence: how to make ends meet. The truth of the case will always remain a hard case. What needful is the determination, good will, and resources to ensure the actualization of a long dream of happiness. t is an act of humanity to help the poor and needy that profoundly moved a good-natured couple, Mr. Kwamina Parker and Mrs. Janet Parker, to decidedly embark upon this arduous task with a sense of humane character and spiritual values to draw public attention to this silent destroyer of our national heritage: these orphans, innocent and needy children, the inexperienced teenage mothers, and our neglected aged folk.

This hard case poses very different problems, but all have something in common. The recognition that the plan will entail great responsibility and challenges upon those who will carry it out makes it a virtue of necessity. Therefore, with fixity of habits, in word and in deed of sat purpose and to pursue that purpose steadily strengthened and encouraged them to consult and discuss with well-meaning persons in and around Ledzokuku (Teshie) Municipality. Notwithstanding the ongoings, they did not relax in hard endeavours but fully engaged the community in a high spirit of enterprise which pushed aside all obstacles and difficulties and ushered in a daring and difficult venture: the Teshie Orphanage in May 1, 1995. A bold venture is often successful. One has to be brave to master trials and adversities. In the interim while awaiting for certification from authorities, it appeared the venture was to come to a standstill.

Not in the least did they waver in their strenuous efforts and resolution to attract the attention and affection of the general public went unabated. The collective opinion came to acknowledge the problem as vitally important to the nation’s progress. A period of years later, Teshie Orphanage was officially registered. Eventually, on the 13th of January, 1998 the Teshie Orphanage received its Certificate of Recognition from the Registrar-General’s Department as a Non-governmental organization with registration Number 2819 and as accompanying Certificate to Commence Business. Subsequent upon all compliance with criteria as laid down in the Orphanage Registration Requirement, the Social Welfare Department authorized the Teshie Orphanage on the 14th of April 1998 under its Certificate of Recognition to operate.
